We’ve kept you festival-goers on your toes, but now we’re proud to bring you the first news of what to expect from this year’s Sunflowerfest (have we ever been ones to disappoint?)
We’re delighted to announce that Irish pop-culture agitators Rubberbandits are bringing their unmistakable, unmissable live show to Sunflowerfest. Hib-hop, storytelling with an undeniably catchy sound, the Irish comedy-rap duo is taking to the Main Stage alongside Derry-born singer-songwriter Ryan Vail, bringing his new live AV show – recently tried-and-tested at SXSW, and hugely successful, we know you’re going to love it.
Other additions to the bill include Electric Swing Circus, Too Many T's, Beans on Toast, Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer, new Dublin noisemakers Farah Elle, Damola and Glasgow pop-rockers Single By Sunday. Not forgetting local favourites Le Galaxie, King Kong Company, Malojian and R51 will be bringing their explosive sound back on-stage.
When you make it through interdimensional customs to the Electro Moot don’t miss a headline set from OR:LA. Fans of dance and electronic can expect JIKA JIKA!, Ponyhawke and Brién at the controls with many more to be announced. Of course, we’re happy to say our famous Silent Disco is making its return for another late-night event.
We’re teaming up with Ireland’s first burrito bar Boojum to bring our Sunflowerfest family a healthy supply of award-winning food throughout the weekend. We can’t give it all away yet, but expect a big upgrade on your standard food village – one to match the cult-status of Boojum’s legendary burritos.
Of course, we can’t expect to take you on a journey through space and time without guaranteeing a smooth landing. So, we’ve partnered with Yippee Tents to provide a luxury alternative to traditional camping with our new Glamping Village this year. Along with our Dutch friends at KarTent we’re also providing an eco-friendly, reliable and sustainable camping option in the form of 100% recyclable, pre-pitched cardboard tents. Yes, you read that right - cardboard tents! They fit two people, measure at a comfy 2.2 x 1.5 metres and weigh a sturdy sixteen kilograms (so you won’t have to worry about your accommodation blowing away – we’ve all been there).
Excited yet? We’re gonna get schwifty.
Don’t forget, Sunflowerfest is good for you.
Sunflowerfest will run from 28th – 30th July 2017 on Tubby’s Farm, Hillsborough.
As part of this years NI Science Festival we are delighted to present Greg Wilson at Belfast's Black Box on 25th Feb 2017.
For those of you who have been in A Parallel Universe the past 30 years, Greg Wilson is a Merseyside-based DJ who played a pivotal role in the development of UK club culture in the early eighties during his tenure at Wigan Pier and Manchester’s Legend and Haçienda, with his upfront selection of NYC electro-funk grooves. Focussing on production over the next decade he worked on the seminal ‘UK Electro’ in ’84, and produced two critically acclaimed albums for the Ruthless Rap Assassins in ‘90 and ’91.
Returning to DJing in 2003, Greg connected with a younger audience and began to spread his reach across the world. His two ‘Credit To The Edit’ compilations did much to cement this reputation as did his 2009 BBC Radio One Essential Mix, voted one of the top 10 of all time. His Electrofunkroots and Being A DJ blogs have become an online touchstone for dance music enthusiasts worldwide, whilst his new label, Super Weird Substance sees his focus return to original recordings, as well as live events, known as ‘Super Weird Happenings’.
We are delighted to announce our 2017 festival theme. Think sci-fi and space, string theory and the multiverse, a place like no other yet oddly the same, a massive upgrade of the status quo... Join us at Sunflowerfest - A Parallel Universe!
We will be pulling out all the stops to create an amazing Parallel Universe for all of you. We are designing and building our biggest and best festival to date and we look forward to welcoming you all to Tubby’s farm on the 28th July 2017.
Fancy dress is actively encouraged.
Stay tuned for upcoming lineup announcements.
As part of this years NI Science Festival and showcasing the best in Irish electronic music we are delighted to bring the King Kong Company's to Belfast's Black Box on 18th Feb 2017. The King Kong Company have rocked Sunflowerfest to its core the past two years. as well as a multitude of other festivals and sold out gigs up and down the country.
“Brace yourself for the blast as these instrument wielding apes light the fuse on a stick of explosive dubby electro bedlam” (Irish Times)
Critics and fans have been raving about King Kong Company in blogs, in tweets and in the fields of Irelands biggest festivals. The seven piece who sound more like a DJ than a band, have been described as BRILLIANT (TheSkinny.co.uk) INCREDIBLE (State.ie) and, not to overuse the word; BRILLIANT by Goldenplec.com. Just this summer they played to packed fields at Sunflowerfest, Castlepalooza, Vantastival, Body & Soul (where they filled the mainstage at lunchtime), Phase One, Barndance and two shows at this year’s Electric Picnic. The first was a surprise slot on the Body & Soul stage (where the promoters took to Twitter to say they “tore up the mainstage”) the second was an end of festival set on The Salty Dog stage on Sunday night. Let’s just say that ship was well and truly wrecked by the time they were finished with it!
King Kong Company burst onto the live scene just two years ago. Having been holed up in a studio releasing one music video every month for the year before that. They had intended to only play one gig in their hometown of Waterford, but when 700 people showed up to it, that put paid to that notion. Fast forward two years later and the band’s manic live shows have seen them become one of the most talked about live acts on these shores.
Stay tuned for more upcoming announcements.
