Our 2020 charity partner - Air Ambulance NI

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland are delighted to be the first official Charity Partner of Sunflowerfest. We are excited to be working with the Sunflowerfest 2020 team and we can’t wait to see this year’s festival of music and art, come alive!

Air Ambulance NI, together with our partners at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) delivers the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for critically ill and injured people in Northern Ireland.

Our pre-hospital care doctors and critical care paramedics provide advanced medical care on-site that is normally only found in the Emergency Department. This early intervention makes a dramatic difference to each patient’s outcome and can be the difference between life and death.

On average, the medical team are called out 1 or 2 times every day. They attend some of the most traumatic medical incidents across the province - it could be a serious road traffic collision, fall from height, workplace, sports or farming accident, or an incident in your own home.

Our EC135 helicopter (call sign Helimed23) can get anywhere in the province from its Lisburn base in approximately twenty-five minutes. Once landed, the medical team establish an emergency department at scene. The interventions depend on patient need and can include opening airways, blood transfusion, sedation and inducing a coma. Once stabilised, patients are rushed to the most appropriate hospital for their needs.

Whilst we hope you never need it, the Air Ambulance is there for you, your family and loved ones 365 days of the year. Fundraising of £2m per year, equivalent to £5,500 per day, is needed in fundraising to keep saving lives, brains and limbs. If everyone does a little to support, it can be sustained today, tomorrow and for the future.
